Thursday Doors: Deep In the Heart

ThursdayDoors DSFAs I write this post and look through recently past ones, I realize I was rocking a personal theme of visiting all my happy places in the past few months. I was unawares, but there it is, in all its bloggy glory. Stressors of all kinds had me pulling out all the stops to try and refill my introvert well (to no avail, at the time). Looking back, though, I’m so proud of Past Me for trying (all those years of reading, studying, venting to professionals, learning all the zen tips one can — apparently pay off).

But let’s not revisit the reasons for the running for respite (all hail alliteration!) that led me to the location for this post. Let’s just focus on the goodness of it, the joy of it, and the gloriousness of doors.

Thursday Doors: Sea the Truth

ThursdayDoors DSFStanding on the beach at twilight, watching the surf rolling onto the sand, wave after wave, one right after the next. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, but not everyone goes with the ebb and the flow.

I walked back alone along the two and half blocks we had walked together to the sea. My car service was needed. She couldn’t walk that far again — the wind was too strong, the chill in the air too biting. A million excuses except the one that is truth.

Thursday Doors: Where Charity and Love Are

I’m not a religious gal, but was raised as such, so the pretty songs in Latin always get me. Luckily, the choir I sing with does quite a few each season. Once choir’s season ended for the summer, I found myself singing them by myself. That’s fine, but when I heard about a sing-along being held by another choir, including one such song, I couldn’t wait for the heat of July to arrive (and that’s so not me). Continue reading →

Thursday Doors: Sea Me

ThursdayDoors DSFI had forgotten what a letdown the days after meeting a huge challenge/goal can be. After all that preparation and anticipation of singing my solo in choir’s concert, I deflated like a balloon a couple days after the party ends. Seeing how busy the calendar was going to get soon (at work, blech), I decided that respite (and reward!) by the sea was required.

It was just long enough.

It’s never long enough.

Thursday Doors: Library Love

It’s getting close to my hibernation time, what with the unofficial start of Summer this weekend. I’m going to try this year, though, to get out some, at least at night when the darkness helps temper the temps somewhat. I started this week by heading out on a drive to clear my head and make the adulting things tolerable. I finally visited a location I’ve passed a million times.

Beachin’ Birthday: Part III

Many moons ago, I ventured to one of my favorite happy places to celebrate my birthday.  Twas a solo retreat meant to enable me to enjoy some sand, surf, and solitude as I began a new trip around the sun.

After several years of not doing so, this year I resurrected this activity. A month ago on what’s known as The Best Day of My Year, I ventured to one of my favorite beaches and spent several glorious days there all by myself.

Happy birthday to me!
