‘Tis the last day of the month, time for a look back at the month that was.
I suppose I should have written this on the weekend, when I had my calendars handy. Alas, it’s early on Tuesday and I’m thinking, “Days… month… blur… What?”
I figure if I start typing, it’ll all come back to me (a la Celine Dion singing a song meant for Meatloaf).
April is ending. Let’s LOOK BACK with Daisy Digest.
My BIRTHDAY! This one’s easy to remember: (a) It’s the BEST DAY OF THE YEAR; (b) I spent it at the beach; (c) there was cake.
I sang a solo! For those who may have missed the big news, in addition to my awesome tambourine playing on one song, I’m singing a solo — in Latin — to lead into another one. It’s so nice when my inner introvert and extrovert hold hands and are friends.
Spring hath sprung. Whilst I love Autumn and Winter, I do appreciate cutting a good five minutes off getting ready to go out the door because I require so much less clothing just to go outside.
During my birthday trip, the man next door thought 6:44 a.m. was a good time to wake on the day after (and let his alarm buzz for a good 15 minutes). REALLY? Of course, being up so early meant I saw this (a BLOOM within a WILT):
(I will not thank him for that.)
Adjusting to aching bones — thanks, oldness. Can’t argue with the need to slow down, though (another BLOOM within a WILT!).
-The beach, the ocean, the dolphins I saw swimming in the ocean
-Kind comments — unsolicited — from new-ish people in my life
-Did I mention cake?
-Excellent gas mileage
-Kind friends of family who helped me build my new bike!
-Kind advice — unsolicited from people I’ll never see again (probably)… see below**
Visual: Cobra Kai, season 2, which I binged in one day. It’s THE BEST… AROUND! Nothing’s gonna ever keep you down…
So many awesome storytelling moments, but I love the 80s nostalgia. Poor Johnny is sooooo out of the new century loop.
Johnny, dropping his kid off at school: “I tried to get you a Trapper Keeper, but I couldn’t find one. Are they still cool?”
His 21st century 18-year-old: “I don’t know what that is.”
…. …. …. …. pause …. … … …. that still makes me laugh out loud.
Auditory: So many things to listen to this month, but some of my faves are Ben Platt’s new tunes, from his debut album, Sing to Me Instead.
Since I’m all blooms within wilts and feeling all positive (you know, as per usual… perhaps more than usual!), let’s listen to Ben Platt, walking fortune cookie in this one, reminding you to enjoy the now, y’all.
**I wandered down a street through the beach town and a rainbow sign caught my eye. ‘Twas pointing toward a store — a building behind a house I’d passed a million times in previous visits. I started to walk past, then decided I should stop in.
I went back and started to wander around the store. It’s shelves were filled with meditative and other spiritual helpers.
“Can I help you find anything?” said the suspected spiritual helper who ran the store.
“No, thanks. Just looking.” And I wandered, unencumbered, through the entire shop. Towards the end, I spotted the world’s largest paper clips and decided they must be mine. They’re neon, too — hot pink, lime green, sunshine yellow.
As I was getting ready to pay, the helper asked about my sweatshirt, which YELLS the name of a state I’d like to live in… I think. She knows people who live there and they love it. I said I was saving and would explore towns to figure out if that’s where I really want to be.
“Don’t wait. Do it now,” she said. “Live your dream.”
I told her that I’ve saved almost as much as I wanted to before leaping anywhere, possibly there.
“Good. Go as soon as you can. Live. Your. Dream.”
I will, I promise. It’s a lot closer than it used to be, and that trip, and her words, will help spur me on even more.
And the large neon paperclips — now not just something to hold pages of my calendar in place, but a reminder of her, and of me in her presence, at that particular moment in time.
…. ….. …. … …..
April was a good month, y’all.
Daisy Digest is part of my Frequently Infrequent series. It posts on the last day of each month and recaps the highs and lows, the things I’m grateful for, the things I’m enjoying (recommending!), and other randomy goodness (including possibly a lil’ story), pictures, videos, and more. Read more about my Frequently Infrequent series here.
