This week’s Sunday Song pops into my head every time I think about the happy news I got during choir.
Choir’s not only the best and fastest two hours of my week — I feel comfortable. You fellow introverts will understand — when you find some of Your People and you belong…
That’s why I felt so comfortable making a suggestion that not only will help the choir on a couple songs, but will make me stand out. What? I’m going to make myself more visible than being Just One of The Group?
Along with singing classic choral tunes and a few things in Latin, Mr. Director included some pop/rock to add to the fun. Two of those: I Saw Her Standing There (The Beatles) and I’m a Believer (written by Neil Diamond!).
After two rehearsals ago, I couldn’t stop singing those songs, and every time I sang Believer, I kept seeing Monkees drummer Micky Dolenz playing the tambourine in my head. While I’m singing, and hearing The Monkees, I think, “I should ask Mr. Director if I can play the tambourine during these songs at our concert.” AND I DID! Introvert, schmintrovert. When I’m comfy… LOOK OUT! And during this past week’s rehearsal, Mr. Director said he liked my idea and it’s gonna happen. WOO to the HOO!
This will not be my first time playing the tambourine in public or standing out a wee bit during said performance. I took drum lessons in elementary school (so officially I got the beat) and, when I was in band and taking piano lessons, I performed solo often.
Me + Spotlight = We Used to Be Friends. Of course, that was some time ago… but even Introvert is all, “We can do this!” WHAT?! YAY!
So every time I think about these songs and my future tambourine performance… actually every time now I say the word tambourine… this song starts playing in my head.
I guess I could change the words… Hey, Tara, Tambourine Gal, play a song for me….
(p.s. Did you know this song was written by Bob Dylan?)
What is Sunday Song? Well, I’m a musical gal, from my wee days taking piano and drum lessons, to my current stint in a community choir. To me, listening to music is what going to church is for some, so I celebrate with Sunday Song. Each week, I post a song that’s been my earworm for the week or something that reflects what’s happening in my world along with a wee story why. (Feel free to join in by posting in the comments — thoughts about my video/what it means to you, a video you’re enjoying this week, etc.) Also, check out all we do at DaisySmileyFace.com.
