Song Lyric Sunday: Listen

As the great musical poet Kiki Dee once said, “I’ve got the music in me.” Seriously, music is part of my daily life, so I participate in Song Lyric Sunday. This week’s theme is listen.

song lyric sunday

A friend gave me good advice, years ago: Listen with your eyes. My gut told me that a particular person was not being truthful, but I didn’t want to believe it. Then: Listen with your eyes. Once I started doing that, I could no longer deny what I already knew.

Truth be told (see what I did there), I’ve always been able to see behind people’s masks. It’s a gift (sometimes curse) of the INFJ personality type — you cannot bullshit us. Ever. Even if we deny what we know, we know it. We can see you.

Lately, what with President Orange taking lying to Olympic competition levels and, in my own life, seeing up close someone who has a mask on that most can’t see… this has been on my mind a lot lately. And so, when this week’s theme appeared, this classic 80s progressive rock tune popped into my head.

Hop into my truth-seeking wayback machine to 1982. Ladies and Gentlemen and Everyone Else Who Doesn’t Identify in Those Two Groupings, I present the smooth sounds of The Alan Parsons Project and Eye in the Sky.

So find another fool like before
Cause I ain’t gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving

  1. Tara,

Listening with your eyes is indeed a gift, even if sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. With all the madness going on around us, ignorance might be bliss, but it ain’t good for our health.

And THIS is SUCH a Sunday song, I love this song! On a Sunday post, it’s bonus round points!

The Eyes Have It! ! !

    1. I’m happy you enjoyed. ‘Tis smooth for Sunday.

Ooh, bonus round points! YAY! I hope they’re like Skee Ball points and I’ll rack up, like, a zillion, only to get a frog-shaped pencil eraser!

  2. Great one. I am an INFJ also 🙂 “Even if we deny what we know, we know it.” So true! I’m adding Alan Parsons Project to my list for the next time I go to the library. Thanks for reminding me of them.

  3. “Listen with your eyes.” Great advice. I’m a INFP and you cannot BS me either. I often understand people better than they understand themselves which seems to upset said people. It’s a gift, it’s a curse. 🙄

    1. Yaaaaaas to all of this. I believe it’s not only introvertiveness of our types, but the N — the intituitive, that makes us good lie-spotters. There’s a meme I saw that says I understand so much about you, a lot that you don’t even know, but I don’t tell you because I don’t want to freak you out. INF(X) in a nutshell. It does upset people that we get them when they don’t get themselves sometimes… true dat.
