As the great musical poet Kiki Dee once said, “I’ve got the music in me.” Seriously, music is part of my daily life, so I participate in Song Lyric Sunday. This week’s theme is listen.
A friend gave me good advice, years ago: Listen with your eyes. My gut told me that a particular person was not being truthful, but I didn’t want to believe it. Then: Listen with your eyes. Once I started doing that, I could no longer deny what I already knew.
Truth be told (see what I did there), I’ve always been able to see behind people’s masks. It’s a gift (sometimes curse) of the INFJ personality type — you cannot bullshit us. Ever. Even if we deny what we know, we know it. We can see you.
Lately, what with President Orange taking lying to Olympic competition levels and, in my own life, seeing up close someone who has a mask on that most can’t see… this has been on my mind a lot lately. And so, when this week’s theme appeared, this classic 80s progressive rock tune popped into my head.
Hop into my truth-seeking wayback machine to 1982. Ladies and Gentlemen and Everyone Else Who Doesn’t Identify in Those Two Groupings, I present the smooth sounds of The Alan Parsons Project and Eye in the Sky.
So find another fool like before
Cause I ain’t gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving
Eye in the Sky (click for full lyrics)
