Song Lyric Sunday: Give

As the great musical poet Kiki Dee once said, “I’ve got the music in me.” Seriously, music is part of my daily life, so I participate in Song Lyric Sunday. This week’s theme is give.

After last week’s blast from the past seemed to tickle so many, I checked the rest of Ms. Gibson’s biggest hits for this week’s theme word. No dice. But! I googled 80s songs with give in the lyrics and one of my favorite late 80s songs popped up!

If you drove past my house in 1987, you would have often heard me singing this little ditty, performed by a band who took their Vulcan name from Star Trek. I, of course, harmonize (during the bridge) as an alto below her higher melody. I tells ya — I love a song with harmonies… and a synthesizer!

Good thing we hopped in the wayback machine to the 80s last week. Since we’re still there, let’s enjoy the the English pop/new wave band T’Pau and Heart and Soul.

  1. Knowing precious little about Star Trek- other than the show’s real life contributions to humanity . . such as automatic doors- I had no idea this band took their name from that show!

But I knew this song quite well, and loved it so. Mango, if the eighties weren’t the most fun decade of all when it came to music. It spoiled us for the rest of time, but it was plenty fine with me.

    1. Well, you’ll have to immerse yourself in the Star Trek world. So much more than automatic doors! If you watch The Next Generation (my favorite), start with season 3. 1 and 2 are garbage.

The 80s were uber fun, fo sho.

      1. Immersion is a favorite word of mine, so you almost have me sold on trying it out. But I thinks maybe I’ll start with the movies. See if and how that works.

The ’80’s were ma jam! The whole decade . . .

        1. In that case, watch the even numbered ones (2, 4, or 6) of the original cast, or any of The Next Generation movies. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is an 80s classic.

          Shaaaaaa! Me, too.
