Song Lyric Sunday: Drink

As the great musical poet Kiki Dee once said, “I’ve got the music in me.” Seriously, music is part of my daily life, so I participate in Song Lyric Sunday. This week’s theme is drink.

Twas listening to a variety of songs Saturday morning and a live version of this one stopped me in my tracks. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, let alone one of my favorites by this artist. When the theme for this week was revealed, my mental jukebox didn’t even have to wait for me to pick this tune. It started playing all on its own.

Most of the album it’s from is melancholic. This song fits right in. But hey, when you’re pining after someone you can’t have, that tends to be how you feel.

It’s simplistic, but sometimes, less is more. This song packs an emotional punch, with very little fanfare.

There are live versions from this year and the recent past, but this 1992 one’s my favorite performance of Wash Me Clean by k.d. lang, from her album Ingenue.

Drink… drink from my spell. Quench love’s drying well…
