Share Your World ~ Twenty

Some weeks I participate in Share Your World, a weekly blog challenge some of the cool kids I know take part in. Welcome to a wee part of Tara’s world!

Share Your World

If you could choose any person from history to be your imaginary friend, who would it be and why?

I’d like to hang out with Shakespeare and Mozart — both masters at what they did. I wonder what they were really like. Most of the women I can think of that I admire are still alive and I read “from history” as someone who IS history, i.e., dead, so…. there you have it.

60s, 70s, 80s, 90s: Which decade do you love the most and why?

This shall come as no surprise to my loyal lovelies: The 1980s. I love the hippies, peace, love, and understanding of the 1960s. I finger-point and hustle along with the disco classics of the 1970s. And I still enjoy the TV programs of (and tolerate the grunge music from) the 1990s. But alas, the 1980s are THE most AWESOME! Why? Where do I start? Just a few reasons, or I’ll be here alllllllllll day:  one-hit wonders, synthesizers, and saxophones!; neon everything; Aqua Net and bangs that touched the ceiling; Cabbage Patch Kids; VCRs and compact discs, but still loving listening to the radio to hear your favorite song, hitting record as soon as the DJ stopped talking so you could have it ON CASSETTE for your WALKMAN; my Trapper Keeper; roller skating; and of course, being incredibly fashionable. Several trends are seen in the photo below: big hair, trench coats, pins all over my coat (and the shirt has GINORMOUS music notes on it). Not seen: fingerless gloves, white leggings with tiny black music notes all over, and Reebok velcro-close high-tops.

When you die, what do you want to be remembered for?

I’ve been told I’m “sunshine-y,” and so I would like to be remembered for bringing brightness to people’s lives.

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

I appreciate that I finally learned several years ago that I need rest and a lot of time alone. I feel so good when I take care of myself that way!

  1. I’d like Amelia Earhart to be my friend. She had skills and spunk at a time when most women squelched their ambitions. I bet that Amelia could teach me a thing or two.

I’m with you on needing time alone, doing nothing that seems of value to other people. I learned that long ago. When I detach and chill on my own, I find that I’m so much more engaged when I return.

    1. Good choice.

I learned the value of introverting, as I call it, a while ago, too. And it’s been a skill I’ve put to good use a lot lately. 🙂 You’re right about being more engaged upon return. True, true.
