A to Z: Eighties

I am a child of the 80s.

square1I wear fingerless gloves and lacy hair scarves tied in big bows. My hair is tall and practically glued in place with Aqua Net. My roller skates are used frequently. I fail at Rubik’s Cube. And I love the one hit wonders.

  • Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
  • Mickey by Toni Basil
  • Heart and Soul by T’Pau
  • Toy Soldiers by Martika
  • It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls
  • 99 Luftballoons by Nena
  • and about a zillion others.

The song below is my favorite. I contemplate adopting their stance:Β “You’re friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance, well, they’re no friends of mine.”Β It’s as good a reason as any to choose a friend, eh?

This post is part of the Blogging A to Z Challenge. My theme is Musical Memoir. Each Monday through Saturday, I explore personal memories through my love of music, inspired and coordinated by the letters of the alphabet. Join in the fun and participate in the challenge, or leave a comment and enjoy some conversation. Thanks for reading. Peace.

  1. I haven’t heard the “if your friends don’t dance…” lyrics in years. Funny how it took me back to driving along in a car I used to have. It was on the radio, I was at the wheel. The eighties [briefly] relived.

Ah, the 80s.. And each song you mentioned reminds me of where I was at that time. My fave 80s tune is probably In a Big Country. Thanks for the memories!

  3. I am an eighties baby as well. Every song on your list gets me grooving. This one is an MTV staple. Though when I think of MTV my first thought is Devo – Whip It! or Aha, Take on Me. Ooooh or maybe some GoGos Vacation.
