Song Lyric Sunday: Comfort

song lyric sundayAs the great musical poet Kiki Dee once said, “I’ve got the music in me.”

Seriously, though, music is part of my daily life. I sing every day. I’m always listening and/or dancing to something. So when I found Song Lyric Sunday, I just had to participate!

This week’s theme is comfort.

As usual, I read the theme post from our gracious host on Saturday night and fell asleep thinking about the word that is this week’s theme. Upon waking, my mind’s jukebox took me back to the 80s. Like, totally tubular.

I loved this group from the first time I heard them. Their name means two and there are three of them. It’s typically 80s in that it sounded like nothing else and is still to this day extremely sing-along-able. This group was and will forever be in my mind’s eye sooooo new wave-y. And when I was a kid, I, too, played all kinds of percussion instruments, like Alannah Currie. Girl drummers rule!

The lyrics: a tale of a love gone wrong, trying to be righted. But I love the part:

You say I’m a dreamer, we’re two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfect world we know we’ll never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away
But you know that there’s no where that I’d rather be than with you here
Today

Who’s not in touch with that, even still today… ESPECIALLY today. Isn’t it just so cool — a comfort, if you will — if you find someone or if you’re lucky more than one person in your tribe that make you want to stay here, now?

With out further ado, I give you The Thompson Twins and Hold Me Now.

Hold Me Now

I have a picture,
Pinned to my wall.
An image of you and of me and we’re laughing and loving it all.
Look at our life now, tattered and torn.
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawn

Hold me now, warm my heart
Stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)

You say I’m a dreamer, we’re two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfect world we know we’ll never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away
But you know that there’s nowhere that I’d rather be than with you here
Today

Hold me now, warm my heart
Stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)

You ask if I love you, well what can I say?
You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play
So I’ll sing you a new song, please don’t cry anymore
I’ll ask your forgiveness,
Though I don’t know just what I’m asking it for

Hold me now, warm my heart
Stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)
