Welcome to my #DSFWeeklyRewind post for the week ending January 20, 2018. So how was my week?
My week began with my being manipulated by a man. The man: my new best friend, and physical therapist, Brian, who spent a good 20 minutes massaging and slightly bending my healing broken wrist. Then I spent some time on this machine that was like a bicycle for your hands. No, I wasn’t upside-down. The wheely part was up high so your arms just had to reach out and spin. I also enjoyed heat applied to the area prior to its “workout” and ice pack for the cool down after. Phew! What a workout. For the number nerds in the group, my flex (not a technical term) is at 35 degrees. My goal is 60. I’m going to get a teeny sweatband for my wrist, since she’s working out now. Ms. Wristy approved and didn’t rebel with pain or other discomfort, so Brian and I are going to become good friends over the next few weeks. Ms. Wristy and I decided when she broke that we would do whatever was necessary to get her back to herself as soon as possible. Good thing I’m tenacious.
As I typed the word over in that last sentence, I immediately heard my very first editor saying in his Brooklyn accent, “It’s not over, it’s during.” Ever since then I’ve used during, but this time, as I typed over, I said, I’m leaving it! Speaking of leaving it, for those playing the Tara Home Game, I used to be a journalist and a freelance writer, and that’s why I had an editor to instruct me in a Brooklyn accent (though we weren’t in New York). Speaking of that type of writing, every now and then something comes along that I want to write about. There’s a big star that I really like coming to my area in the Spring. So I reached out to the editor who still lets me scratch this particular itch sometimes, who agreed to an article. And I’ve begun trying to get a hold of this person. In the past, I’ve had pseudo-famous people answer their own phones; I’ve had famous people make me go through one layer or at the most two of people to get to them. This time: I’m on level four and still haven’t made contact with The Right Person. Did I mention I’m tenacious?
At work this week, I got a “thank you for all the hard work you’re doing.” That was nice. I was also given the assignment to call a difficult person every day until they do what they’re supposed to do (something other staff has not liked to do apparently). Boss Man said, “Sometimes you have to be, pardon me, an asshole, and some people don’t like to do that.” I said, “I prefer to call it being pleasantly persistent and I’ll get what you need, with a smile on my face.” I didn’t tell him this is one of my superpowers, and that I made a major department store take back $3,000 worth of furniture because it ended up being crap — 6 months after I bought it. Tenacious me.
This week I’ve also:
- discovered a new pizza place, that actually has decent pizza!
- watched The Mountain Between Us, an excellent film
- watched This Is Us, my favorite show (review of this week here)
- been sleepy and sneezy, but I think those are the only two dwarfs I’ve been imitating.
And as usual, I’m gratitudinous. (I always include gratitude in my #DSFWeeklyRewind and those who write a #DSFWeeklyRewind post must include at least one thing they’re grateful for).
This week, I’m grateful for: comfy sheets, tissues, new adventures, funny coworkers, good pizza, good Chinese (week three!), funny physical therapists who do good work, and weekends to recover from all of this fun!
Speaking of fun, I fell down YouTube wormhole this week (you know, you start with one video, then three hours later, you’re still sitting there, clicking, watching, bleary-eyed…). Anyway, I discovered this video and squee-ed with glee. In 1997, people mocked me when I said these boys are not just bubble gum summer fun. They are musicians, I said, and the harmonies! I stuck with them. And this video from 2016, with them as all growed-up men… It’s been on repeat since I found it earlier this week. LISTEN TO THEIR VOICES! *faints*
They. Are. Awesome. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Tenacious (adj.): not readily relinquishing a position, principle, or course of action; determined; persisting in existence; not easily dispelled
May your weekend be filled with flowers and happy harmonies and anything and everything that makes your heart sing.
Until next time, peace.
