Some weeks I participate in Share Your World, a weekly blog challenge some of the cool kids I know take part in. Welcome to a wee part of Tara’s world!
What one word describes you best?
Sunshine (frequently told this by others; not my own choosing)
What is set as the background on your computer?
George Sotter’s painting Silent Night (circa 1932). See it here.
If you have been to a foreign country, name those you have been to.
I’ve been around the world through books I’ve read and my studies of French, Spanish, and Latin. As for actually being in a foreign country… not yet. I’m not the best traveler. My bed is fantastic, plus the time loss, the endless getting there, the crowds… Oh, how I hate crowds. Growing up, I had a short list of foreign countries to visit, including REALLY wanting to go to France. Paris in particular. And that’s because of The Facts of Life Goes to Paris. Jo met and fell in love with David (pronounced all French-like ~ Daveeeeeeeed) in a bookstore, and I wanted to, too. Anyway, once I saw that old Paris is old, but there are skyscrapers there, too… well, a city is a city to me, and the older I get, the more city-weary I become. I will go to Montreal and that will be French enough for me. There are only a few places on earth now that I really want to see and put my feet on — Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada, Alaska and Hawaii (but that’s cheating — I’m already in America!). As for Europe, I may still decide to go France, and Austria, and other old places one day, but if I don’t, that’s OK, too. I have a dream to go to Spain to walk the last 100km of the Camino de Santiago. That may still happen. Australia, you’re just too damn far for me. If they ever move you closer or invent the Star Trek transporter, though, I’m there. Other parts of the world never called to me, so I never had them on my list to visit. The internet has connected me with people all over the world, and that’s super fantastic. It’s like being there. ha
What inspired you or what did you appreciate this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
This week I focused on these two songs to set my intentions for 2018. The first one by Tommy Conwell, Gonna Breakdown, reminds me to look within, to stay open and vulnerable, and to keep trying, especially when it’s difficult. The other, Gold by Linda Eder, reminds me to go for the gold, so at the end of the year (and of my life eventually), I will have truly lived. (p.s. If you like your music with a side of goosebumps, click Linda’s for sure…)
Tommy Conwell (and the Young Rumblers)
For the voice you fear the most
You have to live the life you’re given
And never close your eyes
You hold on and stare into the skies
And burn against the cold
For any moment you might find the gold
And there was joy through it all
And I am standing tall
May you find peace, love, and light in 2018, and spread it around the world.
Happy new year, y’all.
