Welcome to my #DSFWeeklyRewind post this week! I hope you’ll join in the fun! #DSFWeeklyRewind is a weekly linkup for Twitterites and other bloggers who want to share their week, perhaps with a dash of creativity, and some gratitude. Join us! And invite your friends! Guidelines here (creativity not required, but please list one thing (at least) that you’re grateful for).
So how was my week?
It. Was. Good. Several events caused several happy dances. Cue the music!
I got a new job! It was time. I’m excited! The day I decided to move on, totally happy with my decision, I found myself driving down a familiar two-lane road. The sun was shining. On the Dark Side came on the radio. Whilst not thematically in tune with leaving one job for another, it’s one of my all-time favorite tunes, and the movie it’s from (Eddie and the Cruisers) touches on the theme of being authentic and true to yourself, and this decision was me being me, to the nth degree. Radio volume: the car windows were rattling. Voice: full and L.O.U.D. Air drumming: nada (see: broken wrist and hey, I was driving). … For your listening/viewing pleasure:
Speaking of authentic, I am the proud owner of 2 tickets to see (but not meet) k.d. lang, she who encourages all to be themselves and to let their freak flags fly. I was totes going to spring for the meet and greet, and I thought I had. I excitedly chose my package and seats very close to the stage for $175 x 2 = $350 total. After my euphoria at scoring tix early wore off a bit, I looked closer. My package-details email didn’t include meet and greet deets. So I went back to the ticket site and clicked seats in the first two rows, where I now read the meet and greet ticket holders were be. Those tix were $352 E.A.C.H. … … … I love her. I love many artists. But there is no one I admire enough to spend $700 to meet them. So I will settle for seeing her from just a few rows back and will collect my VIP (but not meet-and-greet) merchandise. That’s fine by me. Rather than pad her retirement account with that extra $350, I’ll pad mine. The song she’ll open the show with, Save Me, for your viewing/listening pleasure:
The next thing didn’t save me, but it did give me a boost. This week was the week of compliments, for some reason. A couple came from Postcrossing people who received postcards from me, one even commenting on my beautiful penmanship (their words). But an out of the blue note from someone who reads my words here knocked me over. I smiled all day after reading the message. You just never know who’s thinking of you, eh? Hey… thanks!
Speaking of thank you, as usual I’m gratitudinous. For what? Opportunity. Courage. My healing wrist (Wednesday was my 7-week Injur-versary). The smell of winter in the air. My mom for surprising me with turtles (chocolate covered peanuts, kinda shaped like turtles)! Time to rest. Smiley faces from joyous events. Connection.
Speaking of connection, here are more of my words, connecting thee with me. It’s this week’s bloggy goodness!
Here’s a song about the power of words/art and connection. Notebook by The Innocence Mission
I showed him my notebook
The underside of my soul
Released in the scribbles of pages
He smiled and held my hand
And now we part, to enjoy a weekend of whatever makes us happy. I’ll be scribbling in my notebook, and taking it easy, and listening to tunes, and enjoying spontaneous smiley faces as I remember my week. You?
Until next time, peace.
