Welcome to my inaugural #DSFWeeklyRewind post! I’m excited to be doing this and hope you’ll enjoy it and join in the fun! So how was my week? Let’s just say I needed 1.21 gigawatts to make it to the weekend.
The week started out well, as my weeks after a week-long vacation usually do. I eased back into a routine. I caught up with what went on at work in my absence… Well, Monday was nice whilst it lasted. By Tuesday, I was ready to be anywhere but where I was, even back in 1955 with Marty McFly.
Luckily, I’m taking this course about how to survive as an empath. Tuesday especially found me practicing the mantra I learned the previous week to combat negative energy headed my way — Return to sender. Return to sender. Return to sender! Amazingly, it worked.
My Tuesday night TV obsession, This Is Us, helped tremendously also, the emotional roller coaster it is (read my review of episode 3 here). Going back and forth in time with Jack and Rebecca then (80s! 90s!), and Rebecca and Kate, Kevin, and Randall now is so much fun. It’s the only TV I make sure I see in real time, well, except for Jeopardy! Did y’all see #AustinOnJeopardy? What a character. I think more contestants should loosen up and have as much fun as he did. (I won’t spoil it and tell you if his streak continues or not…)
In addition to my usual suspects (above), I decided I needed to find some fun to release any adulting stress (especially after having such a nice vacation week the week before… dammit). So I went roller skating, for the first time this century! I felt like I should wear leg warmers and Jordache jeans, and the DJ should have been playing J. Geils Band and The Weather Girls. It was totally back to the 80s for me — a rad reminder of something I loved to do as a kid. The songs the 2017 DJ played weren’t bad, but I could have done without Jenny from the Block and especially a song that included the lyric Break your legs… Wait, was that a dare?
I ended up not falling, leaving the rink in one piece, so that was good. I worried that, unlike during the 80s, I’d wake up the next day sore from not having skated in so long. Nothing out of the ordinary ached and I can’t wait to go back (read about my roller skating adventure in ThursdayDoors: All Skate).
I’m not sure if all I did for myself equals 1.21 gigawatts of energy, but it did the trick. I’m reaching the weekend feeling pretty good again.
This weekend, however, will be filled with chill. Perhaps I’ll watch a movie from the 80s, since I’m in the spirit. Or I may peruse the library for some good books to visit with. I’m saving up some energy as the last two weekends of October are booked and filled with activity. Well, that, and I want to be ready to go skating again next week. It’s kind of cool that I can travel through time, without a DeLorean, and yet I’m also moving forward — literally and figuratively. With each stride, I release whatever angst is built up in my bones, and I let the smooth movement and the music take me back to happy memories, float me away from anything other than joy in the now, and return me to the world with renewed energy. That’s something to be grateful for.
To a happy weekend, and a great week next week (that doesn’t require a 1.21 gigawatts boost).
